The Leonardo Taxidermy School philosophy is to provide the most complete, creative taxidermy educational experience possible for the time commitment.  We also strive to provide skilled labor for people interested in placement in the field of Taxidermy.

School Geography
Leonardo Taxidermy School is located in Yakima, Washington just off Fruitvale Boulevard in a 3000 square foot building.  We have a large showroom, two spacious workrooms, salting room, walk in freezer and a classroom.  Also housed in the facility is a bathroom and office.

Yakima is located in south central Washington State.  We have the reputation of being the “Palm Springs of Washington” due to our many hours of sunshine.  The shop is just a short walk from the Greenway (Public outdoor scenic walkway) that runs from the Selah gap to Union Gap where there is excellent hiking, biking, swimming, and fishing.  The valley is also know for its river rafting, hunting, and camping. Within an hours drive you can be in the heart of the Northwest wilderness at Mt. Rainier, where skiing, hiking, biking, rock climbing and many other activities are available.

Conduct
Students will be expected to conduct themselves in a professional, courteous and businesslike manner.  Students must be in class, on time, each day. If more then five unexcused absences or consecutive absences occur, the student may be subject to dismissal or may have to make up the course work in another session in order to receive a certificate of completion.

Any student that comes to class under the influence of drugs or alcohol will be subject to dismissal.  If a student is dismissed, they must submit a letter demonstrating remediation of the situation and may be allowed to enter the next available course.

Any student, who willfully damages, sabotages or destroys projects or property of others will be dismissed without possibility of return.

There will be no smoking on the premises.

No tools, supplies or unfinished mounts will be removed from the premises until completed or by permission of the instructor.  All mounts supplies must be paid for in full in order to be removed a mount.

If anyone removes mounts or materials from the premises without permission from the instructor, or full compensation has not been made prior to removal, that person will be prosecuted.

Student Evaluation
Students will be judged, individually, by their finished taxidermy products, which are completed and required during the course.  The taxidermy will be judged on anatomic correctness, naturalness of their eyes, nose, ears, and mouth, overall appeal, balance and symmetry.  This will include the base placement and positioning or the animals.

Students will also be judged on their job performance and willingness to learn. Each student will be expected to keep a notebook and complete all required reading, research and notes.

Oral examinations will be given periodically throughout the course.

With successful completion of all aspects of the course a Certificate of Completion will be granted to you from Leonardo Taxidermy School.
